Forget everything you thought you knew about language learning – papagei.tv is new and completely different! The secret to papagei.tv’s learning system is immersive learning. Immersion is the world’s most successful and well-researched language learning and teaching method. On vacation, grown-ups will often marvel at the speed at which children of different nationalities will acquire the ability to communicate with each other at the beach. This is due to the immersion principle: the foreign language is not learned consciously but emerges from the linguistic context. The newly-acquired language serves as an authentic medium of communication and derives meaning from the specific context. This happens organically and without the step-by-step structure of grammar teaching in school that will start from simple sentence structures. papagei.tv makes use of the immersion principle, adding interactive exercises and thus allowing for intuitive, that is, largely subconscious language learning.
papagei.tv teaches languages by providing video clips in the original language with subtitles. That way, you can understand and learn a language. If you also want to systematically practise and improve your pronunciation, there is a pronunciation coach and also a vocab coach.
How does this work exactly?
You’re watching a video clip, a movie or a TV show. You‘re interested in the contents, you’re following what’s happening on screen, listening to the actors speaking in the original language – and you’ll be surprised how much you can understand right away. Why is that? Because of the subtitles! After a few minutes, you won’t even consciously read the subtitles but rather follow them subconsciously because your brain has the marvelous capacity to perceive the moving pictures and subtitles separately. You’re concentrating on the picture and sound while your subconscious is processing the corresponding subtitles.

No worries: if you watch 10 minutes‘ worth of video clips every day, you will notice after a couple of weeks that you’re getting better at listening comprehension.
